In my opinion, a lot happened at the Black Stars camp within the World Cup in Brazil, and Adam Kwarasey was ridicled by some members of the playing body because he does not speak TWI, and all those issues and other matters must be tackled to assure him that he is welcomed to represent Ghana. He opted to represent Ghana instead of Norway, and that alone shows the love he has for the country. He just feels disappointed, and am sure is not just a return to the Stars, but am sure he is calling for a remmedy to what really happened to bring harmony.

I lived in Europe for 9 years and understand the difference between Ghanaian mentality and the European mentality.

As Black Stars team is European based players, we need an Official who could understand the transition for the players to fit in and also educate the team handlers how to understand the behavior or mentality of the players.

Ghana’s official language is English and so it's the law that all official communications must be done in English. This is what maintains in the civil and public services as well as in secondary schools, colleges of education and universities and colleges in the country.

It's those who are ethnocentric and arrogant, especially ethnic Twi speakers, who've been trying hard to force their language down the throat of non-Twi speakers in Ghana. Their arrogance have made them to think that every Ghanaian must be able to acquire and know Twi. Whenever they meet you and open their mouths, it's Twi they automatically speak to you, even in Accra, Ghana's capital, which is not a Twi-speaking city. Because of their ethnocentric pride, they tend to forget that Accra is Ghana's capital, a cosmopolitan city, and it's not Kumasi. Therefore when they speak Twi to non-Twi speakers and the latter respond that they don't speak Twi, then the ethnic Twi-speakers senselessly express surprise. This attitude is often associated with Asantes, who seem to have great difficulty speaking English. This is true even of some of their highly educated individuals, like even former President Kufuor, as someone has already rightly pointed out in this forum. Just consider the number of purely and exclusively Twi-speaking FM radio stations in the country!

Those who're trying to make Twi Ghana's lingua franca and are therefore attempting hard to impose it on the rest of the population must understand that Akans constitute only 44% of Ghana's population (those who’re ignorant of this fact must check up from Ghana’s last population census statistics)--even if lots of non-ethnic Akans have acquired the Twi language--and must therefore desist from their attempts to impose the Twi language on the rest of the population. Until the government of Ghana and Ghanaians at large have agreed to make Twi Ghana's lingua franca, such people must understand and accept the fact that Twi isn't Ghana's official language but English is and therefore they must reason and behave accordingly. To deny Kwarasey his rightful role in the Black Stars team because he doesn't speak Twi or Ga is as senseless as it’s unlawful and unfair to him personally and to the country as a whole.

If you come from outside and do well for Ghana your endorsement profile becomes much larger. In Europe, advertisers are more interested in a European player who went and "helped" his parents' home country. This is a more dynamic story for promotion of products which equals money in the player's pocket.
You can go from an outsider to a hero in your parents' country just with one good game. The business opportunities this opens up for you and your family in Africa are tremendous.
It helps your career if you perform well for the African country. (Ask KPB).
Socially, you create a ticket to mingle with the most important people and the most sought after women in your parents' home country and beyond.

I think if you look at the big picture and you play it right you could be huge in Ghana if you pick Ghana. With one good game Kwarasey could have become a legend in Ghana and been the face of many products in Ghana. I think he knows that. Now with the MLS, he is just another goal keeper who attracts interest becasue he was in the goal for Ghana against the USA.

Most of the European base players are sick and tired of the way Africa is cheating their players (Remember Cameroon too?) If it`s true that Kwarasey was required to speak either twi or ga by the playing body then it is so sad. The fact that international soccer connotes international approach, asking a foreign player to speak a local language appears foreign to me. I remember I read something to this effect during the commission`s sitting to get to the bottom of the problem. It is not very easy for some of the Ghanaian international players to communicate with their team mates at their club level. It is all the issue of speaking international language mostly English. You can see the problem when it comes to discuss with foreign teams in terms of contract and at training sessions at their team level. It is not that easy for some of Ghanaian international players. Why would they then require a foreign Ghanaian player to speak either twi or ga for that matter. As long as the tournaments are of international nature it is absurd to do that and if the players cannot communicate in English it is a pity. Many times when individual players are asked for their comments after a winning game they find it uncomfortable to express themselves in english.
It is better to encourage all national team players to learn to speak English than rely on their local language for communication at the international platform. It makes it easy to market themselves not only because they can play better but also that they can speak for themselves and even bargain better. If you burden the foreign national player to speak local language in effect, you are saying to him we do not need you as long as you cannot speak local language. Then why would you go after him and ask him to switch his nationality for Ghana in order to play for your country. Please acknowledge that these are some of the issues you guys need to learn to come to terms with otherwise do not ask foreign Ghanaians to switch nationality and play for Ghana. You guys should treat them with dignity.
