Why does Ghanaian media put a politic touch into everything? You write that our prez has joined a host of world leaders but dont stop there until Nana Addo has been added. I have nothing against Nana expressing his condolence but this sneaky politics is what angers us in our village.

Remember the time when Cassius Marcellus Clay aka Muhammed Ali visited Ghana? It was just before September in 1964 during the 7th year of the Reublic and Osagyefo Dr. Kwame " Showboy " Nkrumah and the graceful Arabian lady Fathia were in the Flagstaff House.

In February that year, then Cassius Marcellus Clay, boxer extraordinaire, used a blend of dazzling footwork, blinding speed, psychological warfare , power of positive thinking and the Grace of Allah to defeat the monstrous " lights out" knockout artist called Sonny Liston. Liston could not match the skills of Muhammed Ali and could not answer the bell for round seven after diabolically trying to blindfold Ali with corrosive liniment in round five. As usual Ali made a mockery of Liston with the words:

"..his mommy did not raise a fool
So he chose to stay on his stool..
He wants to go to heaven
So he fell in seven..."
I shook up the world ...
I am a bad man.."

He arrived at Kwame Nkrumah's original airport with an entourage which included his brother Rudolph Valentino Clay ( Rahman Ali), Herbert Muhammed, Arthur Robinson ( his one time manager), Maya Angelou, and many African American dignitaries. Ali was met at the airport by Osagyefo Kwame Showboy, Ohene Djan, Floyd " Real" Robertson. He changed into golden kente attire and was paraded in a motorcade through the streets of Accra. There was ecstacy, euphporia as vociferous fans responded to this chants " Who is the King of the World? Who is the greatest? This was followed by a tour of the flagstaff house and Ali was mesmerised by the burning flame of African liberation. He said " Kwame Nkrumah is my hero"

Then Ali visited Kumasi, then, the original " Garden City" of West Africa, with beautiful trees and flowers here and there and all over. Ali rode in a motorcade through the streets in an open-topped car with licence plate LH 1877 . On his left were fans riding bicycles and motor bikes.On his right were fans shouting with fits and hands raised in the air to salute Ali as he kept shouting " Who is the Greatest!" There was brief stop near the M.C.I.E billboard and Ali was enarmoured with a Fanti kenkey seller. There was a reception in his honour at the Kumasi city Hall and a great local toastmaster proposed a sizzling , flattering toast in his honour. Ali, however drank miranda, fanta and pepsi cola and refused Star beer and fled from the original okukuseku gin. Later, Ali was presented the keys of the city.

Then Ali visited Ho, and was met at the Civic Center arch by the Regional House of Chiefs and one of Kwame Showboy's socialites called Auntie Baby. Howusu's personnel tied the Young Pioneer scarf around Ali's neck as the libation was being poured. Then Ali was driven through the Ho-Taviefe -Kpedze road all the the way to Mount Gemi, Amedzofe. Here, Ali was given a large piece of land to build his residence when he retires from boxing and eventually returns to the land of his ancestors. Ali promised that , at old age , he will hand the title to his brother and return to Ghana.

Back in Accra, Ali visited a beach on the outskirts where a middle-aged kenkey seller challenged him to a bare-fisted, bare-knuckle duel. Ali joyfully conceded defeat as flabbergasted fans cheered wildly. Ali participated in an exhibition match in Accra against Jojo Miles who won Commonwealth light-heavyweight silver in 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth , Australia. Ohene Djan who did the ring introduction was not in favour of Ali fighting Ekow Kranie, a Sonny Liston type hard-hitting heavyweight. Ali was too fast for Jojo Miles. " Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see! Muhammed Ali, you can't see him. you can't hit him, you can't beat him". Ali said to Jojo Miles.

Cassius Marcellus Clay Muhammed Ali rest in PEACE. In death, Fame and Immortality will be yours Forever.

I think Ali should have left the U.S and relocate to Africa after the 1974 fight with George Foreman. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
