A group calling itself The Concerned Kwahu Youth Association has condemned the recent attempted assassination of the Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.

In a statement released today, November 7, 2024, the association said it is “unnerved by the attempt to have Daasebre murdered in his palace” and the ongoing public defamation of his character. The statement gave a breakdown of the attack which it said occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 20, when some armed men in hooded and masked military-style attire stormed the Kwahu Omanhene's palace.

“In fact, eyewitness account has it that some police personnel deployed to guard the palace ended up as mere observers while the thugs brought in to cause mayhem had a field day,” the statement read.

“It had also been alleged in some sections of the media that high ranking officials in government had played a major role in the unlawful removal of the Kwahu Omanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II as Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) even when on the contrary, he had gentlemanly resigned as Board Chairman to recuse himself from an ongoing investigation into a frivolous petition which was sent to His Excellency the President and subsequently, surreptitiously leaked to the media to cause disaffection and disgrace to the Paramount Chief of Kwahu,” the statement added.

The association condemned the actions as "dubious, criminal, and illegal," emphasizing that the removal of a traditional ruler must follow established procedures.

In a stern warning, the Concerned Kwahu Youth Association vowed to defend Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II by any means necessary.

“At this juncture, we want to sound a note of caution to all concerned, and warn that we're ready to use every means under the sun to defend the legitimate Kwahu overload, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.

“Those of us on the side of truth will continue to defend the traditions of Kwahu and its customs with our very last drop of blood,” the statement added.

They called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the events of October 20, 2024 and urged the public to recognize and resist the manipulation of traditional authority for political gain.

The association's chairman, Okouba Gyasi, signed the statement, reaffirming their commitment to protecting the traditions and customs of Kwahu.
