For illegal entry and theft in Abuakwa, the Asante Akropong Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District has placed a 24-year-old unemployed person under police detention.
Michael Gyamfi, also known as Kwabena, entered a guilty plea to unauthorised entrance but not guilty of theft. He is scheduled to appear in court again on January 6, 2025.
The prosecuting attorney, Police Chief Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisa, said the court, which was presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu, that the complainant, Evans Nsiah, was an electric welder who stored his working metals in his unfinished Abuakwa-Canaan structure.
According to him, on December 13 of this year, the complainant discovered that certain pipes worth GHc15,000 had been stolen from the premises.
When the complainant began looking for the items, he came across a witness who observed the accused and his accomplice stealing them but did nothing about it.
According to the prosecution, the accused and his accomplice went and stole some metal pots and a metal table worth GH¢1,000 on December 16.
They tossed away the stolen goods and fled after the witness in the case saw them again and asked where they were bringing them.
The prosecution claims that once the witness sounded the alarm, a few neighbours assisted him in apprehending Gyamfi, but his accomplice managed to get away.
The accused was turned over to the Abuakwa police, according to the prosecution, and in his cautionary statement, he acknowledged entering the building's grounds but denied stealing.
However, he was charged and brought before the court following a police inquiry.
