Andy Appiah-Kubi, the Asante Akim North member of parliament, has claimed that during his tenure, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta held more authority than President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He said this on the Key Points show hosted by Alfred Ocansey on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

Appiah-Kubi claims that Ofori-Atta's influence weakened the President's authority.

As the conversation centred on the election results, Appiah-Kubi firmly asserted that "Ken Ofori-Atta was more powerful than Nana Akufo-Addo."

Critics contend that his perceived authority in governmental decision-making processes stemmed from his strong familial relationship with the President as a cousin. Additionally, Mr. Appiah-Kubi asserted that "the establishment" in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), his own party, deliberately opposed him.

Appiah-Kubi claimed, "The establishment worked against me," bemoaning the difficulties he encountered inside the party's organisational framework. His remarks follow the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regaining power in the general elections of 2024, which saw the NPP lose.

Appiah-Kubi's remarks contribute to the current debate concerning the NPP's internal strife and purported partiality, which have hampered the party's electoral success.

These complaints are a reflection of larger issues with inclusivity and party unity, since many members have allegedly been marginalised by powerful groups.

Appiah-Kubi's remarks emphasise the necessity of internal reflection and reform inside the NPP as it commences its post-election reflections in order to win back the confidence of its members and the Ghanaian voters.
