GBC turned down my appointment for speaking fast - Joyce Bawah

President-elect John Dramani Mahama's spokesperson, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has talked candidly about her early aspiration to work as a television personality for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

During a candid interview on Monday, December 16, 2024, on Accra-based CTV's MASTER OF THE GAME personality show, which was hosted by King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD), Mrs. Mogtari revealed a life-changing event that changed the course of her career.

She disclosed that she was turned down for a GBC ad audition because her delivery was judged "too fast." "I think some people at GBC may recall the event, but many people are unaware of this. I chose to explore other endeavours once the possibility with GBC didn't pan out," she recalled.

Mrs. Mogtari thought back on her passion for writing, which she developed over the years by keeping a journal in which she recorded her ideas and experiences.

“I have always loved to write—about anything and everything,” she said.

"I write on social media to vent my frustrations whenever I encounter difficulties, especially as a woman." Mrs. Mogtari encouraged young people to use social media in an appropriate and productive manner by drawing on her own experiences.

She recalled a time when, while serving as Deputy Transport Minister, she received backlash for posting an early-morning birthday greeting on social media for a friend.

“I remember wishing a friend a happy birthday at 8:00 AM, and someone criticized me, saying it meant I had no work to do.

That same individual is now more engaged on social media than I am, which is ironic," she said humorously. Mrs. Mogtari urged people to stay focused on their goals by emphasizing the need of resilience in the face of obstacles and rejection.

She also emphasized the significance of being authentic and expressing oneself, especially in a time when social media can serve as a platform for criticism as well as an instrument for empowerment.
