Two individuals have died as a result of a cholera outbreak, with the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital reporting 19 new instances of cholera infection in two hours.
A public advisory on the epidemic in impacted areas has been released by the Ghana Health Service.
In the meantime, Dr. Osei Frimpong, the medical superintendent of Kwesiminstim Hospital, has told Connect News how worried he is and how serious the situation is.
Every day, the number of new instances is steadily increasing, and two patients were recently brought in dead. These instances are confirmed to be related to cholera by our investigation, and the situation is getting worse.
"The public is urged to exercise caution: if you or someone you know is suffering from frequent diarrhoea, please do not self-medicate and seek medical help right away."
"We've already registered 19 new instances in a 2-hour period today, and we expect that number to rise by the end of the day. We are urging the public to report any suspicious cases as soon as possible in order to stop the problem from getting worse. He declared.
Citing the tremendous volume of new cases received this morning, Dr. Frimpong is urging the Regional Health Directorate to supply more medical personnel immediately in order to support the hospital.
A lack of basic medical supplies like drips, plasters, and paracetamol is one of the other issues we're dealing with. Additionally, providing care for elderly patients who need help using the loo has presented challenges.
We have purchased adult nappies in order to remedy this. But our hospital is under a lot of strain because the Regional Health Directorate has told us not to bill patients for these costs. Given how hard our staff is working to provide care, we are requesting donations or assistance with these necessities.
"We expect the need for extra healthcare personnel due to the situation's quick escalation. In order to expedite reinforcements and guarantee that we can give the impacted persons with timely care, we are currently in contact with the Regional Health Directorate.
