President-elect John Dramani Mahama has stated that he will not let the benefits of power get in the way of his commitment to serving Ghanaians following his reelection on Saturday, December 07, 2024.

The former president recalled how many people who used to flock to him during his rule abandoned him when he lost the 2016 elections.

He revealed that the only people who stayed in touch with him were his family, churchgoers, and a few close friends. He claims that this experience has taught him a valuable lesson for his political career.

Mahama claimed that as soon as he lost the election, the Christmas hampers that had been flooding his office and house over the holiday season before his defeat stopped.

Based on his experience, the former president claims that he is prepared to serve Ghanaians in humility and is unmoved by the perks of the highest position, which he claims are temporary.

John Mahama stated that even though he won by a landslide on December 07, he would be judged on his style of leadership during a Thanksgiving service conducted in his honour at the Ringway Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

He urged people to come together and take action as a group, warning them to do so in order to tackle the problems facing the country.

The president-elect also thanked Ghanaians for their unwavering support during his opposition period, which included the help of close friends, family, and churchgoers.

"The Christmas hampers ceased to arrive after my defeat in 2016." The large number of people who used to wait in queue at my gate to see me just disappeared.

He said, "The only people who remained by my side were my family, siblings, closest friends, and church members." "These trappings of power don't get to my head," he continued, reflecting on the transient nature of power. I've discovered that the title of "President" is frequently linked to the honours and recognition one obtains. That title will eventually disappear, and life will revert to its most basic form.
