Before making public statements that could mislead or distort the Ministry's efforts, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has been urged by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to ensure internal verification of facts.

This comes after WAEC rejected assertions made by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, that the 2024 WASSCE results would be made public by December 29 after the Council received GHS 25 million.

Following a tour of WAEC's offices on Tuesday, Dr. Adutwum gave an assurance that the results will be available by December 29 and stated that WAEC was completing the marking procedure.

John Kapi, WAEC's Head of Public Relations, denied the allegation, claiming that, in contrast to the Minister's statements, no further monies had been disbursed beyond the GHS 25 million received on December 18.

Mr. Kapi pointed out that WAEC had asked the Ministry for an extra GHS 35 million to repair malfunctioning scanners, finish scanning objective test answer cards, and process results, but the money had not yet been received.

WAEC publicly acknowledged receipt of the GHS 25 million payment in a letter dated December 20, 2024, the Ministry responded in a statement released on Thursday, December 26.

The Ministry added that it has already disbursed the GHS 35 million that was asked in order to expedite the processing of the WASSCE results.

According to the Ministry's statement, "it is surprising to note that the WAEC PRO has publicly denied the receipt of the GHS 25 million payment, despite official documentation confirming its acknowledgement."

The Ministry stressed that in order to prevent misunderstandings or casting doubt on the Ministry's commitments, public remarks made by WAEC officials must be supported by accurate information.

The Ministry reaffirmed that, as of July 2024, it has paid GHS 167,976,815 to WAEC, meeting its financial commitments for the 2024 WASSCE.

It encouraged composure as the procedure comes to an end and reassured the public that measures are being made to guarantee the prompt release of the test findings.
