Why NAPO was given money for his 2024 elections campaigns - Adakabre Frimpong explains

Adakabre Frimpong Manso, a former running mate to the late Madam Akua Donkor, founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has claimed that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), did not receive any campaign budget from the ruling party.

Adakabre, who is also a morning show host at Despite Media, stated that certain individuals within the party opposed NAPO's candidacy as running mate. Consequently, funds for his campaign were withheld, forcing NAPO to finance his campaign personally.

Speaking on his show on Neat FM on December 23, 2024, Adakabre said, "Do you know that NAPO, as running mate, was not given a budget for his campaigns? NAPO financed his campaign from his personal pocket. If NAPO likes, he should come and tell me that he was given money to finance his campaign. So what is the importance of them being in government?

"Someone who was selected as running mate, they didn’t give him anything to campaign because certain people, GBKB people, said they don’t agree that NAPO should be the running mate. And NAPO was selected because of his affiliation with his grandfather. The presidency gave him not even a dime, and the party the same.

"So, if he had saved his money to go into 2028, wouldn’t it have helped him? Why are they doing that? If it is not wickedness, why wouldn’t they have given their running mate money to campaign?"

On Monday, December 9, 2024, the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, declared John Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC, the winner of the 2024 presidential elections with a total of 6,328,397 votes. Dr. Bawumia of the NPP received 4,657,304 votes. Mahama's party, the NDC, also achieved historic success by gaining a majority in Parliament.
