A total of 4,155 cases of cholera were reported in Ghana, including 35 fatalities, according to Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Ghana Health Service on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

At seventeen, the Western region had the highest death toll.

The Ghana Health Service released a statement that includes the following excerpt: "Awutu Senya East, Ahanta West, Effia-Kwesimintim, Sekondi-Takoradi, and Shama metro/municipals, which are the hotspots, had an oral vaccination program between November 30, 2024, and December 19, 2024. A total of 662,906 individuals out of 792,482 eligible individuals have received vaccinations.

The reported cases in those districts have gradually decreased during the immunization program. There have been no confirmed cases reported by Awutu Senya East following the vaccination campaign," the statement continued.

Dr. Aboagye urged everyone who is experiencing vomiting and diarrhea to go to the closest medical facility so they can get help.

“As we enter the Christmas season, we are urged to drink potable water, eat hot food, wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consuming, and wash our hands with soap under running water before preparing food, before eating, and after visiting the toilet (and washroom) or changing diapers and after touching surfaces,” the Ghana Health Service Director General added in the statement.
