Joseph Yamin, the national organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and others have been charged by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) with trying to tamper with Bank of Ghana (BoG) bullion bars.

The event happened on Tuesday, December 17th, and the PMMC revealed this in a press release on Wednesday, December 18th.

In line with the announcement, the bullion bars in question are a component of the Domestic Gold Purchase Program (DGPP) of the Bank of Ghana.

One of the main initiatives to boost Ghana's economy and increase its gold reserves is the program.

The PMMC disclosed that the meddling resulted in a standoff that necessitated the police's participation.

Following several hours of deliberation, it was decided to move the bullion bars to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for safekeeping while the problem was being worked out.

A private exporter who has the necessary license to export gold was also impacted by the outage, according to the PMMC.

At the time of the occurrence, the exporter was processing the gold that was in their possession for export.

The incident was called "unfortunate" by the corporation, which also said it caused needless stress and interfered with legal procedures.

In its statement, the PMMC denounced the event, describing it as a "illegal action" that would harm Ghana's standing in the global bullion market.

In addition to endangering Ghana's reputation as a reliable participant in the world gold market, it cautioned that such disruptions erode the faith of foreign gold buyers.

In order to safeguard the nation's economic interests and worldwide reputation, the corporation advised all parties involved to act appropriately.

The National Assay Centre at the Aviance Cargo Terminal was the scene of an incident where a mob led by a man posing as Mr. Jospeh Yammin, the National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), forcibly attempted to seize bullion bars that PMMC was processing for the Central Bank of Ghana. The incident was noted with great concern by PMMC, which is legally known as The National Assayer.

The occurrence happened on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, commencing around 16.00 GMT and ending at around midnight.
