In a recent interview on Bullet Television, Joshua Akamba, the Former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emphasized the importance of fairness in maintaining peace in Ghana.

Speaking with host Nana Fianko, Akamba stressed that the country has always enjoyed peace, but any missteps by the Electoral Commission (EC) Boss, Jane Mensa, could compromise this peace.

“There has always been peace in this country but if Jane Mensa [the EC Boss] mess up, we [NDC] won’t agree. Nobody wants to see this country in a mess but for peace to reign, be fair” he said.

Akamba’s statement, although made in the context of the 2024 elections, serves as a timely reminder of the need for transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

As a former national organizer of the NDC, Akamba’s concerns reflect the party’s commitment to ensuring that the electoral process is free from bias and manipulation.

It is worth noting that Akamba’s caution is not an isolated incident. The NDC has consistently emphasized the need for the EC to maintain its independence and impartiality in the electoral process.

As Ghana prepares for future elections, it is essential that all stakeholders, including the EC, political parties, and civil society organizations, work together to ensure that the electoral process is transparent, fair, and peaceful.
