Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu mourns the loss of his mother, Hajia Mariama.

Hajia Mariama, the mother of Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, former Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, has died. Dr. Seidu Fiter, a close family friend, confirmed her death and shared the devastating news on social media. Dr. Fiter conveyed his sympathies with the Islamic expression "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un," which translates to "To Him we belong and unto Him we shall return," indicating his sincere sadness over the loss.




Hajia Mariama had been battling a long-term sickness and was being treated at Accra's Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where she died. Her passing has left a tremendous vacuum in both her family and the community. The family has stated that Hajia Mariama's funeral will take place today, in accordance with Islamic norms, with more information on the plans to come shortly.

In their statement, the family emphasized Hajia Mariama's unshakeable commitment to her family, characterizing her as a caring and devoted matriarch whose legacy will be treasured by those who knew her. Her death has caused deep anguish for Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, his family, and the people of Tamale South, all of whom have conveyed their condolences.

Messages of condolence have been coming in from all across the country as people grieve the passing of a beloved mother, community member, and matriarch. As the family navigates this terrible time, the country stands with them, providing prayers and support.

Funeral arrangements will be made in accordance with Islamic practice, with more announcements expected in the coming days.
