Muslim Leaders Visit to Mahama Following Election Campaigns for the NPP and Bawumia

Ghana's National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, recently visited President-elect John Dramani Mahama in Accra to congratulate him on winning the presidential election on December 7. Sheikh Sharubutu, accompanied by a group of traditional chiefs and Muslim leaders, wished Mahama well as he gets ready to start his second term in office. With an emphasis on promoting an inclusive government, the visit underscored the significance of solidarity and collaboration as Mahama's administration progresses.

In response, President-elect Mahama informed the Chief Imam that his administration will take its duties seriously, especially in light of the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) sizable legislative majority. Mahama emphasized the importance of collaboration and pledged that his government would not abuse its power in parliament. Mahama stated, "We will always consult the Minority," emphasizing the necessity of cooperation between the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC in order to handle national issues.

Mahama also praised Sheikh Sharubutu's steadfast assistance during his political career. He pointed out that since Mahama initially took office as vice president in 2009, the Chief Imam has always supported him through all his wins and losses, highlighting the strong regard and enduring bond between the two.

Mahama also revealed that a committee would be established to start carrying out the projects mentioned in the Muslim Manifesto of the NDC. This demonstrated the new administration's appreciation of the contributions made by the Muslim community and its dedication to resolving their issues. Mahama thanked the Ghanaian people for their prayers and support, citing the election's peaceful conduct as evidence of their thankfulness.
