NDC in Hot Water as EC Rejects Alleged Wins: Here is the Complete List of Constituencies

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in hot water after the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana rejected the parliamentary results from nine constituencies where they supposedly won. This decision may result in the NDC losing critical seats due to charges of electoral malfeasance.

On December 19, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa announced that the commission will not accept the parliamentary results from these constituencies because they were declared under duress (duress is defined as threats, violence, constraints, or other action used to coerce someone into doing something against their will or better judgement).

- Ahafo Ano South West

- Ahafo Ano North

- Obuasi East

- Okaikwei Central

- Ablekuma North

- Tema Central

- Techiman South

- Dome-Kwabenya

Mrs. Jean Mensa confirmed that the counting of votes in these locations would follow proper processes. "Our staff's declarations were under threat, and we consider them illegal. "We will not uphold results obtained under threat or duress," she stated.

She also called on outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and incoming President John Dramani Mahama to protect the safety of EC staff. "We appeal to Akufo-Addo and Mahama to intervene and provide the commission with adequate security to fully complete our work in the 2024 general elections," according to her.

The EC has made it plain that it will not accept results that were announced under duress or without due procedures. Mrs. Jean Mensa denounced the activities of political party members who obstructed vote counting on December 7.

"After the polls closed on December 7, some political leaders directed their supporters to surround the EC's counting centres." "It was intended to destroy important documents and disrupt the counting process," she said.

She observed that the counting was proceeding nicely until these disruptions happened. "The presence of hundreds of supporters at our counting centres disrupted operations in many regions. "In some cases, they damaged the computers used to count the results," she explained.

She revealed that some EC employees received threats and were forced to declare results without following proper processes. "This is intolerable. Our staff's declarations were under threat, which the Commission finds illegal. "These declarations will not be upheld," Mensa stated.

She cited particular examples from the Ablekuma North and Okaikwei Central seats, where results were declared without counting ballots from 62 and 31 polling stations, respectively.
