Following a recollection, Patrick Yaw Boamah of the NPP was pronounced winner of the Okaikwei Central parliamentary seat, overturning Baba Sadiq of the NDC's previous triumph.
The Okaikwei Central constituency's representation changed significantly at the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was proclaimed the winner with 15,383 votes over the incumbent, Patrick Yaw Boamah, who received 14,949 votes.
However, following a review of the results, the Electoral Commission (EC) changed its decision. Patrick Yaw Boamah, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was proclaimed the winner over Sadiq.
Boamah, born on September 19, 1974, graduated from the University of Ghana with a Master's degree in International Affairs and works as a lawyer. He has previously served as Vice Chairperson of the Finance Committee, as well as a member of the Foreign Affairs and Appointments Committees of Parliament.
Concerns about anomalies in the first count triggered the recollation process. Boamah thanked the constituents for their support and emphasised his determination to serve the town properly.
Baba Sadiq, NDC's candidate, also expressed concerns about unfairness on the side of EC officials during the recount.
