Policeman unintentionally shoots colleague dead in Abeasi

A police officer allegedly shot his comrade dead at Abease on the Prang-Kintampo route in the Bono East area. The sad tragedy happened about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Adom News reports that a funeral procession was beginning, with mourners heading to the cemetery. However, they confronted a police roadblock, resulting in a clash. The situation worsened as one of the mourners allegedly insulted a police officer, triggering a call for assistance.

When the reinforcement squad arrived, they reportedly battled with the mourners, prompting a police officer to fire warning shots. In an attempt to disarm him, the mourners mistakenly fired the revolver, hitting his comrade in the abdomen.

When the police realised the extent of the damage, he departed the scene. The injured cop was taken to a neighbouring clinic before being transferred to Techiman Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
