The finance minister is once again absent from parliament.

The Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, was noticeably absent from Parliament today, missing the opportunity to unveil the much-anticipated mini-budget. Parliament reconvened yesterday, therefore this is the second day in a row that the scheduled presentation has been delayed.

Adding to the uncertainty, the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and other important members of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) front bench were absent from the session, fueling suspicion about the causes for the delays. In reaction to the circumstance, the acting Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom stated that the NPP leadership was ignorant of the Finance Minister's whereabouts or the reason for the delay in delivering the mini-budget.

This answer did not satisfy the Minority, who swiftly accused the government of deliberately evading the presentation. Kwame Agbodza, the Minority Chief Whip, expressed worry that the repeated delays could be part of the NPP's larger effort to undermine the efficacy of a prospective new administration after the 2024 elections.

The Minority has also given a clear warning about the consequences if the situation continues. Their principal focus is the prompt payment of salaries to public sector employees. They have made it plain that any failure to pay wages on time will result in the NPP government being held solely liable for the inconvenience.

Although the mini-budget is still on the parliamentary order paper, it has been two days without being presented. Minority MPs have committed to continue their efforts to hold the government accountable, emphasizing the importance of the situation and demanding prompt action.
