IGP special operations team on a late night patrol
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team has detained two individuals for illegal possession of narcotics during a late-night patrol in the Tamale metropolis.
According to a report by 3news.com on November 24, 2025, the two-week security crackdown targeted locations known for criminal activities and drug-related crimes, as part of a decisive effort to combat rising crime in the area.
During the night patrol on Sunday, November 23, 2025, officers conducted thorough checks across various communities, including the Tamale Taxi Rank, which had previously been notorious for drug peddling.
The team’s vigilance led to the arrest of Oluu Kasi for possessing a jackknife at an unusual hour and Mohammed Salim for carrying dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, the report added.
Despite their efforts, the hideout of the "Aluta Boys" in Changli was found to be empty, and other hotspots, such as Vittin, the Ganaa Hotel area, Kapagyili, Lamashegu, and the Aboabo Market, did not yield any further arrests.
Additionally, a checkpoint on the Vittin–Yendi Highway did not uncover any illegal items, but the seized items were sent for forensic analysis.
Through intelligence-led operations and increased patrol visibility, the team aims to rebuild public confidence and strengthen efforts to keep Tamale and its surrounding areas safe.
Consequently, the arrested suspects were subsequently transferred to the Sakasaka Police Station for detention and further investigation, the report stated.
