The Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has sent a congratulatory message to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama on his victory in the 2024 elections.
He says the former president who is leading the polls has won his respect because he did not give up but has fought hard to secure this momentous victory.
In a post shared on social media, he wrote, "Welcome. You have my respect as a fighter who didn’t stay down when you fell! and will have my support as my President. May you succeed for all our sakes. I won’t lie I have seen greater promise evaporate into disappointment so I’m not too giddy about your chances but as I requested for Dr Bawumia, I will give you a fair hearing and honest feedback.”
Kofi Bentil further pledged his support for the former president’s administration as long as he does good for the people of Ghana. He however was quick to add that just as he has done in previous administrations, he will not hesitate to speak up and call him to order when the need arises.
Results from the various constituencies are being announced following the counting and collation of votes at the various polling and collation centres across the country.
The exercise, which is being held at the various collation centres in the country is aimed at promoting transparency and fairness in the electioneering process.
Both the National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party have been holding separate press conferences urging their supporters to remain calm and allow the EC to do its work.
The NPP has admonished its supporters to conduct themselves properly while they monitor the collation and announcement of results.
The NDC, on the other hand, has ordered its supporters to remain vigilant and not celebrate as they follow the process.
The 2024 elections were contested by 13 presidential candidates and 807 parliamentary candidates.
