Samuel Koku Anyidoho, Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and now Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Atta Mills Institute has asserted that the 24-hour economy policy by John Mahama will not save the economy.

During a phone interview on Okay FM, Koku Anyidoho stated that the policy of John Mahama is not new and would not be the saviour of the crushed economy.

According to him, some phone applications like the ECG app, water company apps, the DVLA app, passport applications and others are already in existence and in use and has made life convenient for Ghanaians hence introducing the 24-hour economy is useless.

Koku Anyidoho disclosed that some people including himself are not convinced yet about the “24-hour economy” policy.

“So let us have specificity so we can buy into the idea of the 24-hour economy because this is just a general mantra. Some of us are still not convinced. It is not going to save our economy. Will it solve all our unemployment problems? No it will not”, he lamented.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, in his manifesto introduced and shared the importance of the 24-hour economy.

According to Mr. Mahama, the 24-hour economy is the surest way for the country to achieve its significant economic expansion.

The 24-Hour system recognized as a vital contributor to urban growth and cultural enhancement, gained increasing attention from researchers, policymakers, and urban planners, given its potential to stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and promote cultural activities.

While explaining the importance of the 24-hour economy, he emphasized that, the new policy will give people hope, adding that, the policy is a solid way to replace import with home grown production of goods, which will consequently create solid base for a vibrant Ghanaian industry.

John Mahama explained that, the high import in the country is driven by the demand for goods that are not currently produced in the country and the 20 hour economy will present an opportunity for the business communities to fill this gap.
