The National Peace Council will today April 9, 2019 meet with both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National democratic Congress (NDC) to discuss the way forward in solving the issue of political vigilantism in the country.
It is however, not certain who would be representing the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) though sources from the grapevine revealed to MyNewsGh.com that Sammi Awuku the National Organiser, John Boadu the General Secretary and Freddie Blay the National Chairman could be in attendance.
But the NDC has however revealed will be represented by, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, its National Chairman, Mr. Totobi Kwakye, a former Interior Minister, Prosper Douglas Biney, A former Chief of Staff, Kakra Asamoah and Abraham Amaliba for the much anticipated meeting.
Mr. Abraham Amaliba disclosed on Angel Fm in Kumasi monitored by MyNewsGh.com’s Syxtus Eshun that the NDC is prepared for the meeting with both parties are to be represented by seven persons each
The meeting which is yet to be held today will have the council members’ table proposals for onward discussion on the best approach towards the disbandment of vigilante groups in the country
It will also set out modalities to disband political vigilantism which both parties engaging their followers behind the scenes as may be determined following today’s meeting.
It would be recalled President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at his last State of the Nation Address called on the country’s two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disband their vigilante groups or would be forced to do that himself through legislation.
He observed that the issue of vigilantism has become a source of worry to Ghanaians indicating that the country’s security agencies will not look on unconcerned while these groups perpetrate various forms of violence.
“I have asked the leadership of the NPP to extend an invitation to the leadership of the NDC for such a meeting on vigilantism. The security services of the country will be on standby to assist this meeting.
