Some nine former executive members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Upper Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region have joined forces with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure victory for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate and incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Joseph Tetteh.

The NDC members said the good works of the Mr Tetteh as an MP had inspired and encouraged them to rally behind him for a successful second term bid.

Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Nuettey Ayertey was joined by the MP, constituency chairman of the NPP, Moses Tetteh; the DCE, Felix Nartey Odjao and other party executives to welcome the NDC members and assured them that NPP would never betray or abandon them.

The decision, according to the members, was influenced by the MP’s impeccable performance as a legislator in his short stint as the people’s representative in the august house of parliament which were all evidence of good governance.

The NDC members including former assembly members, branch executives and constituency executives announced their move at the MP’s acclamation as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the December polls on Saturday, 20th June 2020 at Asesewa.

A former NDC communication officer and one of the members who pledged solidarity to the MP, Daniel Teye Anim said their decision to join forces to retain the legislator was informed by the massive development within three and a half years of his tenure as a lawmaker.

He said the current MP had done very well in continuing uncompleted projects started by his predecessor, the NDC’s Jeff Kavienu in areas such as road construction, water and electricity supply as only five communities in the Upper Manya Krobo District were yet to receive electricity supply.

Another member, Paul Kwesi, popularly known as Fido said he was initially disappointed that the former NDC Member of Parliament for the Area, Jeff Kavienu lost to the current MP as the then legislator started various projects that he believed he deserved another four years to execute.

He, however, believes the legislator has continued with the ongoing projects began by the former MP, adding that he ensured development in all communities irrespective of who voted for him or not.

The NDC members who maintained that they were still members of the NDC and had not defected to the NPP however reiterated their unflinching resolve to ensure victory for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, to continue his good works for the people of Upper Manya, adding that they would never retreat or renounce their pledge to rally solidly behind Mr Joseph Tetteh.

Party chairman, Moses Tetteh, popularly called 'Arizona', by his admirers urged their new friends not to relent but join hands with the party to ensure that the dream of the MP for a second term is realized.

He expressed confidence in the party meeting the expectations of the NDC members to ensure that they remain with the NPP MP and parliamentary candidate.

The motivation of the members to join forces with the NPP, according to the party chairman was influenced by the hard work of the Member of Parliament and their belief that he needs to be supported to enable him to deliver more on his mandate.

Joseph Tetteh who said he has already started working with the new devotees believes their move to join his campaign trail is invaluable.

“I’m very excited because I’ve even started working with them,” said the obviously elated MP. “We’ve been going by communities and I’ve even studied the way they talk and preach about NPP, I’m excited and I think I can work with them.”

Joseph Tetteh was confident of a lasting relationship with his new friends. He said: “They have come never to go back because by the end of 2020 when we win the elections, they will not go back to the NDC, they have come to stay and I’m sure of that.”

He urged other members of the NDC to emulate the example of the NDC functionaries by joining forces with the NPP to ensure victory for Joe T.
