The Chairman of the Tema East constituency branch of the governing New Patriotic Party Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba lV, has warned that Ghana risks returning itself to an era of looting if the country elects former president John Mahama as president in December 2024.

In an interview with journalists in Tema recently, Nene said that a second Mahama presidency will sink the country.

“We are talking about returning the country to the era of the bus branding deals, Ford Explorer gifts in return for contracts and the Airbus contract scandals,” Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba lV said.

Consequently, according to him, a vote for Mr. John Mahama is only tantamount to a return of the country to the system of political pillaging and state looting which he says happened under Mahama’s first presidency.

“A vote for John Mahama is a vote for the return of corruption and the looting of state assets by Mr. Mahama’s family and friends,” Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba lV said.

In that same interview, the NPP Chairman challenged Ghanaians to privately profile Dr. Bawumia and Mr. John Mahama side by side and see who they will conclude is more corrupt.

According to him, he wants the profiling parameters to include the number of corruption scandals that directly involved the two personalities under their respective governments and judge for themselves.

“Mr. John Mahama oversaw the SADA and GYEEDA scandals of course, but those are even remote. What is actually more applicable in as far as the criteria I have given is concerned are the Ford Explorer scandal in which he gave a Burkinabe contractor contract in exchange for a car, and the Airbus bribery scandal in which his brother, Samuel Mahama peddled his influence to take bribes from Airbus in exchange for getting President Mahama to give out contracts.”

In contrast, Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba said no corruption scandal has ever been directly attributed to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as was attributed personally to John Mahama.

“Anybody can check the records and all they will do is find out that Dr. Bawumia was generally blamed for the alleged corrupt conduct of some state officials however he himself was never accused of directly undertaking corrupt schemes like President Mahama was,” Nene said.

Consequently, he said he is confident that all well-meaning Ghanaians will vote for Dr. Bawumia in the December 2024 election.
