The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has once again hit back at the government over the inability of the Black Stars to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

He expressed his displeasure over how the Black Stars, with all the top footballers in the world, could not advance to the competition, while countries like Sudan were able to do so.

The former president questioned why Sudan, who are engaged in war, managed to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON at the expense of Ghana, with all its footballing talents.

Addressing the public ahead of the 2024 general elections on GTV, Mahama blamed the Black Stars’ woes on the poor governance of President Akufo-Addo's government.

“Nothing is working in this country. Everything has gone haywire. It has even affected the Black Stars. The Black Stars have always been the Black Stars, and we've all been proud of them. You could count on them to score when it matters. Today, look at the Black Stars.

“So sad. We're in the same group as Sudan. They played all their home matches away because there's a war in Sudan, and they have qualified. The Black Stars are out. And so the time has come for Ghanaians to make a change,” he stated.

The Black Stars, led by head coach Otto Addo, lost three games, drew three, and won none of their six matches played in the tournament.

The team finished bottom of Group F with just three points, while Sudan and Angola qualified from the group.

It marks the first time in 20 years that the Black Stars have not qualified for the AFCON.
