Franklin Cudjoe, the Founder and President of IMANI Africa, has said he is surprised that the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, is still in office despite the release of a recorded conversation of him with an accused person in the ongoing ambulance trial.
According to Franklin Cudjoe, the behaviour and conduct of the Attorney General (AG) would not have been tolerated and accepted in other countries.
He said the proper thing for the AG to do is to either resign, or, the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, should have dismissed him to uphold the country’s democracy.
“Some are saying he hasn’t done anything wrong, some are defending him, let’s stop this. Your Minister of Justice is actually coaching someone to fabricate a story in order to jail somebody else. Why? He told Jakpa to secure a fake medical excuse, that’s even damning, really?
“We’re getting to an election, people think this is an election matter, it is not, this is a grave matter, a very damning matter and I’m surprised the gentleman is still at post,” Franklin Cudjoe said in a report on myjoyonline.com.
The IMANI Africa founder cautioned against politicizing the issues as it could lead to denting the integrity of the nation’s legal framework.
Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the case, while under cross-examination, revealed that the Attorney General had been contacting him at unusual hours to solicit testimony against the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
This revelation has sparked discussions among Ghanaians, with some individuals calling for the resignation of Attorney General Godfred Dame.
