Out of the 1252 polling stations scattered in areas of the Upper East Region, the Regional Police Command says it has identified nearly 950 flashpoints ahead of the elections.

This was revealed by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Simon Yaw Afeku who said his outfit is strategizing to avert any election related crime.

He said eventhough the Police sees the over 1000 polling stations as potential flash points, the 949 identified identified polling stations have real threat violence which could be instigated by ethnic, religious, and chieftaincy issues among others.

“Infact we are not leaving any polling station as being flashpoint or not flash. All the polling stations in one way or the other we’re considering them as flashpoints so that we will take note of this in our deployment. All other polling stations are potential flashpoints to us in the security,” he said at a media engagement held in the region.

According to DCOP Afeku, the survey has become relevant so as to be able to preside over a peaceful elections come December 7, 2016.

Ghana is heading into the 2016 elections in December 2016 with fears of possible violence on the heels of the high stakes in the crucial polls.

However, there have been a number of peace campaigns in order to foster peace and unity in the country before, during and after the 2016 elections.
