Samuel Koku Anyidoho, a former presidential spokesperson under late President John Evans Atta Mills has criticized Mills' vice president for failing to honour the late president after taking over from him.
Anyidoho, a serial critic of former President John Dramani Mahama, has insisted that no national monument at the regional or national level was named after Mills during Mahama's time in office.
Mahama served about six months of Mills' remaining term in 2012 before winning his full first term in the December 2012 elections.
Anyidoho noted in an X post dated June 18, 2024, that even a Mayor of Accra at the time (now MP for Ablekuma South, NDC) named a road stretch in Accra after the late president but his vice failed to do anything of the sort.
"As we continue to speak to facts, do you know that apart from Oko Vanderpuye using his position as Mayor of Accra, to name the High Street after President Atta-Mills, JM on his own did NOT name anything after his late boss?" Anyidoho quizzed.
Anyidoho is also on record to have accused Mahama of abandoning the Asomdwee Park, where the mortal remains of the former president was buried.
The premises was recently refurbished with Anyidoho's Atta Mills Institute teaming up with the Coastal Development Authority (CoDA).
In August 2012, barely a month after Mills death, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly led at the time by Alfred Oko Vanderpuije resolved to name the Accra High Street and the new Millennium City School at the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools, after late former President John Evans Atta Mills.
At an emergency meeting by the Assembly on Monday to pass a resolution of change of name, the Assembly concluded that the Accra High Street should be called “Evans Atta Mills Street”, while the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools as will now be known as “President Evans Atta Mills Educational Center of Excellence”.
Addressing the members of the Assembly, Mayor of the City Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije said the changes will take effect even before the former President’s mortal remains are laid to rest on the 10th August 2012.
