Gregory Afoko was accused of murder of former Upper East Regional Chair; Adams Mahama
The family of Mr. Gregory Afoko, one of the suspects standing trial for the murder of the former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adams Mahama is raising concerns over the use of some administrative procedures to slow down his release, MyNewsGh.com reports.
Mr. Gregory Afoko was two weeks ago granted bail, the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties to be justified by an Accra High Court Presided over Mr. Justice George Buadi.
But the Attorney General’s Department on Monday March 15, 2019 filed a stay of execution just when the family of the suspect were readying themselves to finalize the bail conditions for his release from police custody.
On Friday March 22, 2019, the trial judge threw out the request of the A-G stating that most of the arguments canvassed by the A-G were already contained in the A-G’s response opposing the bail application which were initially dismissed by the court.
Family of the suspect however sense there is a deliberate effort by some unseen hands to manipulate the processes administratively to frustrate them from meeting the bail conditions which they have started.
According to the spokesperson of the family, it's been almost two weeks since the court ordered that the suspect be released on bail but these persons in collusion with others appear being manipulated and are doing everything possible to frustrate them in one way or the other.
They believe the conduct of these persons vindicates their earlier stance that the executive branch of government of having a hand in the continuous incarceration of their son, for a crime he didn’t commit.
The Spokesman of the Ayieta family, Robert Atong Asekabta therefore appealed to the Judicial Service to ensure that their relation is treated fairly and released as directed by the court without undue interference to frustrate the processes administratively.
