Afenyo-Markin replies Sammy Gyamfi over hateful comment

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has responded to comments made by Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi regarding the Minority's criticism of his office.

According to Afenyo-Markin, Sammy Gyamfi should accept criticism rather than view it as a personal attack on his character.

Speaking in an interview on Metro TV on August 10, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated that neither he nor former Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei-Asare, who has also criticised GoldBod over alleged losses, harbours any hatred towards Gyamfi.

He said their concerns are driven by a desire to see the institution succeed.

“NPP, nobody hates you. Abena Osei-Asare doesn’t hate you. I don’t hate you. We want the best for you,” he said.

The Minority Leader further stressed that the opposition’s concerns are focused on the operations of the Board and should not be interpreted as personal attacks on the GoldBod CEO.

The comments come amid heightened scrutiny of GoldBod and controversy over claims circulating on social media linking a man identified as Dominic Bonsu to Gyamfi’s security detail.

The claims include allegations that GH¢200 million belonging to GoldBod was taken by the businessman.

Gyamfi has rejected the allegations, describing them as false and part of what he considers a coordinated disinformation campaign against him.

Speaking on an X Spaces discussion on Sunday, August 9, the GoldBod CEO denied any connection between his bodyguards and gold trading, as well as the alleged loss of state funds.

“None of my bodyguards is involved in gold trading, and none of my bodyguards has stolen or taken Gold Board money,” he said.

Gyamfi also denied claims that Bonsu had served as his bodyguard.

GoldBod has separately rejected allegations of a GH¢200 million loss and claims that Bonsu was a former bodyguard to the CEO.
