Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has condemned the bloody clashes that ensued between the Zongo youth and Ashanti youth in the Kwabre East District of the region over the weekend describing it with unprintable words.
“Excuse me to say, this is foolishness and stupidity to happen”, the livid Minister without mincing words pointed out assuring the residents of maximum security.
“This is not politics. …we will make sure those arrested by police face the full rigors of the law to serve as a deterrent to the rest of the youth” the chairman of the Regional Security Committee (RESEC) told the host of Nhyira FM’s morning show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.
“Instead of you to think of what will bring food on your table at this time government is also doing everything possible to give you jobs, you are fighting”, he fumed warning politicians and opinion to stay off from interfering in police’s Investigation.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Francisca Oteng-Mensah, has also described the situation as “sad and unfortunate”, wondering why the people who have stayed in harmony for so many years could engage in such a scuffle and therefore charged authorities to find the root cause of the conflict.
“I was disturbed when I heard that there was a young girl who died and during the funeral celebration something of this sort came about, but I really don’t think that is the root cause of it, something is behind this whole fight between the two parties”, the lawmaker suspects.
“We need to look for the root cause of this whole conflict,” she said, adding that, investigations will be conducted to probe further into the conflict to find a lasting solution to it.
