The Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrono in the Ashanti region and minister for Monitoring and Evaluation Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei made no promises to members of the vigilante group Delta Force when he was campaigning in the 2016 elections, his spokesperson Owusu Boakye has said.

He said neither has the MP received any demands from the group over the years to warrant an attack on him.

It comes after members of the dreaded group invaded and scattered a meeting between the MP and some party members on Sunday. A video of the attack has gone viral. The MP was reportedly whisked away to safety after the group inflicted mayhem on supporters who had converged for the meeting.

Reports say the group is upset over the numerous unfulfilled promises made to them by Dr. Akoto Osei and the leadership of the party in the region.

Speaking on the Morning Starr Monday, the spokesperson for the minister said his boss is doing a lot for the community and must be appreciated.

“We have not received any demands from them and the MP made no promises to them so it’s fair for reports to suggest that they are attacking him because of the promises he made to them. He has been embarking on drains construction many new things in secondary schools across the constituency and these are what the people must be able to know and appreciate; what else do they want again? This is not something anyone should encourage. It has to be condemned,” he told host Francis Abban.

Also commenting on the incident, the Ashanti regional secretary of the party Sam Pyne warned the party will not condone such indiscipline from its members.

“The party’s position has been looking at the procedures of resolving issues. You don’t take the law into your hands, that’s too bad. The MP has been meeting them over the issues. It beats my imagination why people will go on that tangent.

“If they did something contrary to the regulation of the land, the law must be applied. I don’t support that action, I don’t compromise on indiscipline, it’s not the best of things to do”.
