President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced plans to establish four new universities in the Ashanti, Ahafo Region, Eastern, and Bono East Regions as part of efforts to enhance tertiary education in the country.
A report by graphiconline.com stated that during the conferment of his fifth honorary doctorate from Valley View University, Nana Akufo-Addo emphasised his administration's commitment to improving the quality and accessibility of education.
“Building on this legacy, my administration has continued to support the growth of private tertiary institutions,” he noted.
He outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing educational quality, including comprehensive teacher training programmes, curriculum enhancements, and the integration of digital tools to enrich teaching and learning experiences.
"The government will establish four new universities in Mampong (Ashanti Region), Akrodie (Ahafo Region), Bunso (Eastern Region), and Kintampo (Bono East Region), while also expanding facilities in existing institutions," he explained.
The president aims to increase tertiary enrollment to 40% by 2030, up from the current 18.84%. He also highlighted efforts to achieve a balanced science-to-humanities enrollment ratio of 60:40, aligning with the country’s educational strategic plan for 2019 to 2020.
Additionally, President Akufo-Addo urged citizens to reject any presidential aspirant who proposes revising the Free Senior High School programme.
