Akufo-Addo is NPP’s god till he... - Allotey Jacobs

“I am afraid for the political future of Alan K. I would have wished that he stepped down. I am afraid for his political future…if he continues with his stand; very soon it will lead to his political destruction,” says Allotey Jacobs, Central Regional Propaganda Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The "educated fisherman," as he is popularly called, was commenting on the recent internal strife within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and calls for Alan Kyeremateng, one of the party's flagbearer aspirants, to pull out of the presidential primaries.

Despite calls on Mr. Kyerematen and two other candidates- Kofi Osei Ameyaw and Francis Addai Nimoh- to step out of the flagbearership race and allow two-time flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to go solo, they have all indicated their preparedness to go the full distance.

Adding his voice to the debate, Allotey Jacobs said, unless Nana Addo decides to step down, it will be difficult for anybody else to take the flagbearership position especially as he has won the hearts of majority of the delegates in the NPP.

In view of this, he has asked Alan Kyerematen to step down, otherwise, if he loses again during the National Delegates Congress in October 18, 2014; he will not be given another chance.

“The masses in the NPP are taking the final decision and Akufo-Addo has walked his way through the delegates. But we like it that way…It is Nana’s time, and if Alan does not give in, he has no future. If you look at the signs of the time, you will realise that it is Nana’s time. Nana Addo is NPP’s god; unless he dies…but so far as he lives, majority of the NPP supporters will go for him. If Alan doesn’t step down and he loses, he would not be given another chance after 2016….” Allotey Jacobs indicated during a panel discussion on PEACE FM's Kokrokoo on Wednesday.

Allotey Jacobs also added that the bickering and wranglings in the NPP will continue unabated because it is not an issue that can be solved talking to the parties involved. According to him, "it is a class struggle."
