Akufo-Addo must axe appointees who benefitted from GETFund scholarship - Ernesto

Founder of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, has posited that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should have removed from office his appointees whose names popped up as beneficiaries in the GETFund saga.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said if any of the individuals are men of integrity, they should resign from their posts and apologise to Ghanaians.

He described as unfortunate and sheer greed the award of these scholarships to politicians who could have afforded to pay for the cost involved in schooling.

He has also called for massive support and prayers for the Auditor-General, Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo.

Mr. Yeboah says the Auditor-General needs our support to continue exposing wrongdoing and corruption in public institutions.

To him, Mr. Domelevo must be commended for the work he has done at GETFund.

A recent audit report conducted at GETFund

Some MPs and government officials were given scholarships by GETfund to embark on courses abroad.



The audit report listed some government officials as beneficiaries of GETFund scholarships for various studies abroad.

Notable amongst them is the Minister for Education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Procurement Minister, Sarah Adwoa Safo and the Executive Secretary of NaCCA, Prince Hamidu Armah.

The mandate of the GETFund is to grant scholarships to brilliant but needy Ghanaians.

He said needy students who are supposed to be supported with a scholarship to further their education are disadvantaged since government officials are beneficiaries of the programme.

To remedy the situation, he wants the beneficiaries to be prosecuted.

He wants the Auditor-General to surcharge and recover the monies that have been appropriated by people whose salaries and emoluments can in themselves be enough to pay for other people’s education.

He has hinted of series of demonstrations should the beneficiaries go unpunished.
