Ghana is set to add a state-of-the-art Dassault Falcon 6X aircraft to its Air Force fleet, following parliamentary approval of a US$60 million purchase under a deal between the Ministry of Defence and Dassault Aviation.

The acquisition is part of a broader initiative to modernise the country’s ageing air fleet and enhance its operational capabilities.

In addition to the Dassault Falcon 6X aircraft, Parliament on December 4, 2025, also approved a €125 million deal with Airbus Helicopters SAS for one H160 and three H175 helicopters, further strengthening the Ghana Air Force’s operational capacity.

GhanaWeb takes a closer look at the Falcon 6X’s specifications and features.

According to official information from dassault-aviation.com, the Falcon 6X is hailed as one of the most advanced jets in the world and sets a new standard for widebody comfort. It boasts the tallest and widest cabin in business aviation, measuring six feet, six inches in height and eight feet, six inches in width, making it the first ultra-widebody purpose-built business jet in the industry.

With an intercontinental range of 5,500 nautical miles, the Falcon 6X can fly nonstop from London to Hong Kong. Its advanced digital flight control system, first introduced on the Falcon 7X and refined on the Falcon 8X, ensures superior handling and flight safety.

Safety and situational awareness are further enhanced with Dassault’s FalconEye® combined vision system, which aids pilots during approaches in darkness or poor weather. The aircraft also features the FalconScan advanced diagnostics system, monitoring 100,000 maintenance parameters to ensure optimal performance.

Powered by new-generation Pratt & Whitney PW812D engines, the Falcon 6X offers excellent fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions while maintaining top-tier performance. It is also capable of operating on steep approaches to short runways, which is an essential feature for diverse mission requirements.

The Dassault Falcon 6X aircraft is valued at approximately US$60 to US$65 million.

The move to purchase the new air fleet follows Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson’s announcement during the 2026 Budget presentation in November, in which he revealed that the government plans to acquire four modern helicopters, one long-range aircraft, and one medium-range aircraft starting in 2026.

Dr Forson emphasised that these acquisitions are critical because the current fleet is ageing and increasingly reliant on costly maintenance, which limits operational readiness.

The newly approved aircraft are expected to be delivered within four years and will support a variety of Ghana Air Force operations, including aerial surveillance, troop and logistics transport, maritime patrols, air defence, disaster response, and medical evacuations.
