The Office of the Attorney-General has directed that the suspected serial killer, Charles Quansah, should be officially charged with murder.
The recommendation was based on available evidence which confirmed that the suspect committed the crime.
Quansah, a 36-year-old driver mechanic, who is on remand, has confessed to killing eight of the women in the mysterious serial killings that rocked Accra and Kumasi between 1993 and last year.
Superintendent Angwubutoge Awuni, the Head of the Police Public Relations Directorate, who disclosed this in an interview, said Quansah will soon be arraigned before court.
He said there is not enough evidence to charge the rest of the suspects, adding that the police are still investigating the matter.
Superintendent Awuni said even though there has not been any report of serial killings after the arrest of Quansah, it is important that women continue to be vigilant, since the other killers have not been arrested.
He advised women to continue to adhere to security advice of not staying out late at night, to move in pairs and not to accept lifts from strangers.
He said as of now, the police still has no clues that would lead to the arrest of the other killers, and called on the public to volunteer information, not only on serial killing, but on crime generally.
Superintendent Awuni said the police stands by its word to reward people who volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of suspected criminals.
On the combating of crime in the country, he said, the police has intensified its patrols in all areas, especially in its bid to combat armed robbery.
