Late former Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur will be the first person to be laid to rest in the newly built Military Cemetery at Burma Camp, the headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in Accra.

The late former number two gentleman of the land died on June 29 at the 37 military hospital after reportedly collapsing at the Air Force Gym while exercising at the gym.

The public viewing of the body of the former Governor of the Central Bank which began today Thursday, July 26 will continue to tomorrow July 27, 2018 as part of the state funeral for the departed statesman.

A burial service will be held at the International Conference Centre in his memory after which a cortege will march the remains through some principal streets of Accra before the interment at the newly built Military cemetery at Burma Camp.

The cemetery which was commissioned in April 2018, has the capacity to accommodate more than 10,000 graves to be made of military personnel, General’s, retired personnel and their entitled families.

The facility also has a space for Presidential and prominent citizens of the country. The Military High Command ensured the new cemetery was built to relieve pressure on the Osu Military Cemetery which is reportedly running out of burial space.

The new burial ground is landscaped with flowers, walkways, lawns, trees, with emphasis on serenity and orderliness as well as a memorial wall to bear the names of fallen soldiers.

There is also a forecourt where burial service can be organised for the departed before they are buried.
