Nhyiaeso Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Richard Anane has said Mr Paul Afoko should not have been ousted from his position as national chairman of Ghana’s biggest opposition party.

“I do believe Afoko should not have been out of his position in the first place…so, far as I’m concerned, he should be working,” Dr Anane told Bola Ray on Starr FM’s Starr Chat on Wednesday, February 24.

Mr Afoko and two other executives of the NPP: General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and Second Vice Chair Sammy Crabbe were suspended late last year for allegedly working against the electoral fortunes of their flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo.

Dr Anane, however, disagrees with Mr Afoko’s indefinite suspension, saying it is important for the rules and regulations of the NPP to be abided by in all actions taken by the NPP.

Dr Anane’s assertion strikes a chord with the sentiments of former Chief of Staff Kwadwo Mpiani, who told the same programme that the party got it wrong in suspending its first-ever elected northern chairman.

“I believe the party was wrong…” Mr Mpiani told Bola Ray, adding that his ousting sets a “very dangerous precedent,” since similar actions could be taken against future chairmen and other party executives who may be voted for by the party. Mr Afoko is fighting his suspension in court.
