Andre Ayew reflects on his career-defining moment at the 2008 AFCON

Andre Ayew shared his career-defining moment with students at the University of Ghana during a lecture on sports psychology.

Ayew, who has an impressive track record of 120 appearances and 24 goals for Ghana, highlighted his participation in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as one of the most significant milestones in his life.

The lecture, led by Dr. Collins Agyemang Badu, saw Ayew discussing the pivotal role of sports psychology in shaping elite athletes. He drew from his personal journey with the Black Stars, offering insights into the mental fortitude required in professional sports.

Ayew's international career began when he was called up by coach Claude Le Roy for Ghana's friendly match against Senegal on August 21, 2007. He made his international debut in this match as a late-match substitute. His selection for the 2008 AFCON squad followed shortly after, on January 11, 2008.

"This was one of the biggest moments in my life," Ayew reminisced. "When you are young, you have dreams, and in one moment your dreams are fulfilled. There is nothing better at that moment. Competing at the 2008 AFCON was a great moment."

Ayew also emphasized the importance of resilience in sports, stating, "It's part of our sport, it's part of the mental work. You're human, sometimes you have to fall down deep, wake up, and go again."
