Anti-corruption body worried about Judgement Debt C’ssion

Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), the local chapter of anti-graft body Transparency International, has raised concerns about the work of the Judgement Debt Commission.

It says the work of the Commission should have ended by now as the Sole Commissioner, Justice Yaw Apau, was given one year to finish work.

Speaking to journalists during the launch of an abridged version of the Auditor General’s report on five ministries on Wednesday, October 22, Executive Director of GII Vitus Azeem said other judgement debts may be piling up by now if no action has been taken on those found culpable thus far.

“GII is also worried that two years down the line, the Judgement Debt Commission has not yet completed its work which was meant to take a year,” Mr Azeem said.

The Commission was set up by President John Dramani Mahama in 2012 to look into the numerous cases of judgement debts in the country.

“While appreciating the volume of the work of the Commission, GII is worried that other judgement debts could be piling up while some perpetrators might be finding their way of getting luxuries in the system.”
