Executive Director for the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, Beauty Emefa Narteh has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to declare his assets.

Governance in Ghana is usually associated with corrupt practices and one of the major ways anti-corruption activists have advocated for is the enforcement of the law for public office holders to declare their assets when they assume office.

President Nana Akufo-Addo whilst campaigning for office pledged to obey this law.

Beauty says she is reminding the President that the time is now. “I want to call on the President, especially on his commitment that he would declare his asset immediately he becomes President,” she noted. “Once he’s made that pledge to Ghanaians, then we are looking forward to him declaring his assets”.

Beauty Emefa Narteh is also hopeful that the appointment of Attorney General-designate, Gloria Akuffo will facilitate the enactment of the anti-corruption bills in Parliament.

She recalled, “looking at the past four years, we have a number of anti-corruption legislations in Parliament that were not passed.”

The anti-graft agent added, “With her coming in, we would expect that she would support so that all those bills that are outstanding like the Right to Information Bill, the Witness Protection Bill, the Whistle Blower Amendment Bill and even the Conduct of Public Officers Bill…would be facilitated speedily”.
