Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has told goalkeeper Fatau Dauda he must prove himself to be maintained as first choice for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

Dauda has been the Black Stars number one gloves man since January last year when he impressed at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

But a high-profile move to South African giants Orlando Pirates has restricted him to the bench and reduced him to a training player.

Dauda made only three appearances for Pirates in the league and has been told to work hard to maintain his role in the Ghana squad.

“For the last two years, Fatau has been our No.1. No one can convince me he’s lost form to be out of the team. He has to prove to me he is still No.1,” Appiah told Graphic Sports.

“Since day one, I have said that any player who had a team could make it to the national team depending on his form. If you’re not playing in your club, it means there could be a problem.”

Ghana’s provisional World Cup squad will begin a three-day non-residential camping on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
