Archbishop of Canterbury commends AMA Boss

Reverend Justin Portal Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury in London, has commended the developmental efforts by the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije in the city.

He said the confidence building measures being put in place to improve the lives of about five million people living in the metropolis by the Accra Mayor, had that won him an award recently for the important innovation.

Rev Welby made the commendation when he paid a courtesy call on the Accra Mayor in Accra.

He lauded Ghana’s strides in its socio-economic development and pledged to improve on the existing relationship between the two countries.

The Archbishop expressed the hope that Britain and Ghana would continue to cooperate in the various sectors of the economy in the interest of the people, adding that: “Britain would continue to attach great importance to Ghana’s economic achievements.”

Dr Vanderpuije said efforts would be intensified to ensure that the Better Ghana Agenda becomes a reality.

He said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) was committed to efficiently and effectively manage its resources for the benefit of the entire population of the five million people in the capital.

“Your visit to Accra to share with us and to foster a better relationship between the people of Accra and the Church of England is a significant exploit,” Dr Vanderpuije noted.

The Assembly later honoured Reverend Welby for his outstanding and exemplary spiritual and leadership services.

The Reverend was accompanied by his Wife Mrs Caroline Welby.
