A bodyguard of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has confirmed that the paramount chief is indeed an avid listener of Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kofi Kinaata.
In an interview on Opemsuo Radio, the official radio station for the Manhyia Palace, the bodyguard shared that he accompanies the Asantehene everywhere and has observed the Asantehene’s fondness for Kinaata's music.
He recounted an instance when the Asantehene first heard one of Kinaata's songs and inquired about the artiste.
“I remember when he first heard one of his (Kofi Kinaata’s) songs, he asked us, ‘Who sang this?’ I said Kinaata, He asked where he was from and I replied ‘Takoradi’. And he said, ‘the man speaks a lot of sense, his songs are good,'” he said.
This confirmation comes shortly after the Asantehene mentioned Kinaata's name in his speech at the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association, using lyrics from Kinaata's song 'Susuka' to emphasize the importance of appreciating Ghana.
The Asantehene's admiration for Kinaata's insightful lyrics has been well-received by many fans of the artiste and Kofi Kinaata himself, who has continued to express his excitement over the recognition.
