Deputy National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Joshua Hamidu Akamba has said the establishment of the ‘State Asset Retrieval Committee’ by the Akufo Addo led-government is purposely to witch hunt members of the NDC.

According to him, it is needless for a Task Force to be established since the government knows who to contact and where to go if indeed there are state assets illegally in the possession of former government functionaries.

Government last week set up a task force with a sole mandate of retrieving state assets which are being held unlawfully by officials of the former NDC government.

The team comprises officials from the Police Service, the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority(DVLA), the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and the office of the President.

In a statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare said various state assets including landed properties and vehicles are yet to be handed over to the new government, hence the setting up of the task force to retrieve all these assets in the interest of the state.

But speaking on Starr FM Monday, Joshua Hamidu Akamba urged members of the NDC to wake up from their slumber and resist any attacks as the Task Force is out there to persecute them.

“I’m telling you that the NPP has records of which car is with who because before you take a state vehicle your name is recorded and I can tell you on authority that some of the old officials in charge of transport are still at the Flagstaff House. So they didn’t need to put out this state and try to intimidate or harass people.

"The people that were appointed by them when we came into power are still at the Flagstaff House. They should use those people to know who have taken away state vehicles because they were the people in charge of allocating the cars. This Task Force is out there to witch hunt and disgrace people, and that I’m calling on our members to wake up from their slumber."
