Sources close to the East Ayawaso constituency wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress[ NDC], has it that the youth are calling for a change in the person the party presents as its Parliamentary Candidate for election 2020.

The source indicated that the time has come for the Ayawaso East NDC to present a candidate who is formidable, pragmatic, effective, efficient , problem solving and above all vocal in parliamentary business .

To this end the source disclosed to this reporter that they are calling on a son of the constituency in the person of Dr. Yakubu Mohammed Azindoo to step forward and contest the forthcoming NDC Ayawaso East MP primaries.

The source noted that Dr. Yakubu Azindoo, is more than qualified and also has all it takes to change the dwindling nature of the constituency at parliament as well as the NDC party within the constituency.

‘’We have more capable and competent people to lead our constituency and Dr. Azindoo comes atop. He is one of us with a solid educational background and thus understands our problems very well,’’ the source added.

The youth were of the view that with Dr. Mohammed Yakubu Azindoo as the political head of the Ayawaso East Constituency, they see a selfless leader who is committed in spearheading the unprecedented developmental agenda of the area to the highest level.

The anonymous source said ‘’ Dr. Azindoo is someone we believe can on the national front, play a vital role in Parliament by vigorously contributing to debates on the floor of the house and at the committee levels respectively so as to uplift high the image of our constituency within the Ghanaian political circles and beyond’’.

They mentioned education, sanitation, youth organization and development, women issues, sports development amongst others as some of the areas the constituency is lagging behind over the years under various MPs.

On whether they were not paid by Dr. Azindoo, to campaign for him indirectly, they responded that they were never paid by anyone just that they want the best for the constituency hence their call for Dr. Azindoo to contest the NDC MP race and represent the people at Parliament.

‘’We are not campaigning because we are aware of the NDC laws on political campaigns within the constituencies, as such we are only adding our voice for a change in the kind of persons we present to the people on the NDC ticket as our parliamentary candidates.”

They further urged party delegates to vote for candidates who are proactive and capable of leading the constituency to another level.’

“The Ayawaso East has suffered for long because of the wrong choices we have made over the years and the time for a change in choices is now,’’ they added.

Further checks conducted by this reporter indicated that it’s not only the NDC youth who are calling for a change in the constituency parliamentary candidates. Some NPP stalwarts who pleaded for anonymity shared the concern of their NDC counterparts.

They believed that the constituents of Ayawaso East must desist from just voting for any candidate presented to them by their political parties to represent them in parliament to avoid the previous mistakes.

‘’We now need vocal people in parliament as our representatives devoid of partisan politics,’’ they explained.

They said Dr. Azindoo is a competent son of the constituency and if come the next NDC primaries he [ Dr. Azindoo] contests and wins as an MP candidate for election 2020, they [ the NPP] will not only support him but vote for him.

“We need someone with the zeal and competence required to lead our constituency in parliament in 2021. Even though we follow different political ideologies, the Dr. Yakubu Mohammed Azindoo, I know during his days at the University of Ghana can propel our constituency forward if given the chance,’’ he added.
