A citizen has petitioned the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to arrest the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman of Ayawaso Wuogon Michael Omari Wadie.

Victor Quarshie Adonoo contends the opposition member has threatened the life of President John Mahama following a radio discussion where he said: “If President Mahama dares to evoke his prerogative of mercy, what happened to the late Mills will happen to him.”

President Mahama has been petitioned to pardon a radio talk show host Salifu Maase and his two panelists Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn, who were slapped with a four-month jail term for scandalizing the Supreme Court.

“He should not dare pardon the trio, but if he thinks he is [a] man and understands the law, he should go ahead and pardon them. If he releases them, by the next election, he will not be the president ... I'm telling you that, if he dares, he will not be the president,” Wadie added.

In his petition to the Director General of the BNI, Adonoo noted: “The essential ingredient of the offence(s) under the Sections stated above include the threat of death. Therefore for him to say that what happened to the late President will happen to the current President is a very serious threat.”

Dear Sir,

PETITION FOR THE INSTITUTION OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGATION OF THREAT OF DEATH

I, the undersigned, do hereby petition your good office to commence criminal investigation into the serious allegations of threat of death and threat of causing harm against Michael Omari Wadie of Ayawaso West Wuogon.

This has become necessary due to the direct threat he issued on the life of the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama on a Radio program on Rainbow Radio that” should the President exercise his constitutional powers of prerogative of mercy to grant the Montie 3 pardon, he will not live to see 7th December,2016.What has happened to late President Mills will happened to him.”

It is our case that under the Criminal Offences Act,1960,Act 29 “Section 74—Threat of Harm.

Whoever threatens any other person with unlawful harm, with intent to put that person in fear of unlawful harm, shall be guilty of a misdemeanour.

Section 75—Threat of Death.

Whoever threatens any other person with death, with intent to put that person in fear of death, is guilty of a second degree felony.”

These statements by Omari Wadie are understood to mean a direct threat of death because the late President died in office just around an election year in 2012. We are currently in the election period of 2016 General elections.

The essential ingredient of the offence(s) under the Sections stated above include the threat of death. Therefore for him to say that what happened to the late President will happen to the current President is a very serious threat.

He has subsequently admitted on other radio stations that that is his voice. We have attached to this petition a copy of the audio for your kind attention. We are counting on your usual cooperation. Thank you.

Yours in the service of God and country.

Victor Quarshie Adonoo
