A former NPP Chairman for the Ayawaso West Wougon constituency, Michael Omari has dared President John Dramani Mahama to pardon the Montie trio if he believes he has the mandate to so.

The firebrand politician said the president should not think of contesting the next elections if he pardons the trio who were jailed for four months after they were found guilty of contempt by the Supreme Court.

He was speaking on Rainbow Radio's Eboboba, a political show hosted by Kwabena Agyapong.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has on behalf of the president, presented the petition persuading the president to pardon the Montie trio to the Council of State for consideration.

Responding to the petition, Omari Wadie says if President Mahama pardons the Montie trio, he will no longer be the president of Ghana by December 7.

According to him, what happened to the late President Mills awaits President Mahama if he dares pardons Alister Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase aka Mugabe.

He, however, failed to specifically mention what exactly awaits the president if he pardons the trio.

"If President Mahama dares [to] evoke his prerogative of mercy, what happened to the late Mills will happen to him. He should not dare pardon the trio, but if he thinks he is a man and understands the law, he should go ahead and pardon them. If he releases them, by the next election, he will not be the president...I'm telling you that, if he dares, he will not be the president."

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra regional organiser, Anthony Nukpenu who was also on the show condemned the comments by his political opponent.
